"This book focuses on the geo-political importance and wars of the Persian
Gulf. The Persian Gulf countries contain a significant percentage of
world's oil and gas reserves and have therefore played a significant role
in the global geo-political and geo-economic issues. The study seeks to
analyse the geo-politics of the regional states, regional order and
contemporary conflicts in the region; the geo-strategic importance of the
Strait of Hormuz and the role that Iran and United States can play to
evolve an `order' in the region.
It also focuses on one of the critical geopolitical areas that has seen
such a long drawn conflicts like the Iran-Iraq war or the Kuwait war that
was to beign the process of more long drawn struggle over Iraq. It is a
region that has witnessed hegemonic aspirations by both, the regional
powers and extra regional powers. It is this complexity that makes any
argument for the development of `order' in the region a difficult task.
This study represents a good effort to bring the geo-political complexities
of the region sought to go beyond the narrow factual constraints and to
provide a direction for the possible path for the development of order in
the region."
